Who will be the next Speaker of the New York City Council?

The New York City Council is set to hold an internal election for the position of Speaker on January 7, 2026. The election for the position of Speaker of the New York City Council typically falls on the first Wednesday after the first Monday in January. This market will resolve according to the name of the candidate that becomes Speaker of the New York City Council as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder Speakers appointed before the election will not count. If this election does not take place or the results of this election are not known by January 31, 2026, 11:59PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on official information from the New York City Council or a consensus of credible reporting.
