Analysis

The prediction market exhibits a completely flat yield curve, with all 56 constituent markets sharing an identical tenor of 164 days to resolution. Within this single tenor bucket, YES probabilities display substantial dispersion rather than a traditional curve structure. The cheapest YES probabilities cluster at 1.0%, representing 28 markets across various seed matchups (ALA, BYU, LSU, PSU, USC in the first round, and numerous others in later rounds). The most expensive YES probability reaches 44.0% for the KXNCAAFSEED-27S11-AUB market. This wide range from 1% to 44% within a single tenor reflects differentiation by matchup quality rather than time decay, with mid-range probabilities of 6-14% concentrated in markets featuring traditionally strong programs like Notre Dame, Texas, and Ohio State. The flat tenor structure indicates the market is pricing this entire event family as a single, unified resolution point 164 days forward, with no intermediate milestones or staged outcomes. The probability dispersion across matchups reveals the market's view that outcome uncertainty stems entirely from competitive matchup dynamics rather than temporal factors. Higher probabilities for Auburn (44%), Notre Dame (8-14%), and Texas (9%) suggest these programs are perceived as more likely to achieve the specific outcomes encoded in their respective markets. The prevalence of 1% probabilities across numerous matchups indicates the market assigns minimal probability to many potential outcomes, concentrating belief mass on a smaller subset of scenarios. This structure is consistent with a single-elimination tournament or bracket event where all resolution occurs simultaneously.

How to read this page

An outcome slate is a set of mutually-exclusive contracts that all settle on the same date. Their YES probabilities form a distribution over which outcome the market expects. Probabilities should roughly sum to 100% minus the venue’s overround.

Curve construction: each constituent contract is identified by its venue event_id (KXNCAAFSEED on kalshi). Tenor is computed from the contract’s close_time minus snapshot time, rounded to days. We do not interpolate between tenors — every plotted point is a real, traded contract. Outcome-slate pages show price-as-probability for mutually-exclusive contracts; term-structure pages show price-as-probability vs days-to-resolution for the same underlying event.

How we compute these odds

SimpleFunctions aggregates live prediction-market contracts from Kalshi and Polymarket. Each slug groups contracts that resolve on the same underlying event, identified by venue event_id.

For binary slugs, the headline probability is the liquidity-weighted mid-price across all bound contracts. For multi-outcome slugs (e.g. elections with 3+ candidates), the headline is the leader’s price; we never arithmetically average disjoint outcomes — that would produce a number with no real-world meaning.

Snapshots refresh every 5 minutes during market hours; daily aggregates are computed at 04:00 UTC. The 30-day sparkline is drawn from per-ticker daily means stored in market_indicator_daily; 24h delta and movement events are derived from the same source.
