Analysis

The yield curve for KXOSCARNOMPIC exhibits a flat structure across all 52 constituent markets, as every contract shares an identical tenor of 468 days to resolution. Within this single tenor bucket, probabilities display extreme dispersion, ranging from 1.0% (NAR, AVEN, BUC, CLA, CRY, DEA, ENT, ILO, JAC, MIS, ROSE, TON, UPR, WER) to 97.0% (ODY), with a median probability around 14-18%. The cheapest YES probabilities cluster at the 1.0% level across fourteen markets, while the highest conviction bets concentrate on ODY at 97.0%, followed by BLA at 88.0%, WIL at 86.0%, and DEB at 79.0%. Volume distribution is highly uneven, with NAR commanding $2,351.50 in 24-hour trading despite a 1.0% probability, while ODY attracts $4,136.77 at 97.0%, suggesting these extreme probabilities carry meaningful conviction rather than illiquidity artifacts. The flat tenor structure prevents traditional yield-curve analysis, but the probability dispersion reveals a market pricing individual Oscar nomination outcomes rather than aggregate event timing. The market is not expressing uncertainty about *when* nominations will occur—the 468-day horizon is fixed—but rather *which* candidates will receive nominations. The high-volume concentration in extreme-probability markets (ODY, NAR, OBS, IPL) indicates sophisticated participants are actively positioning on specific nomination outcomes, while the 1.0% floor on numerous contracts suggests the market treats certain candidates as effectively eliminated. This structure reflects the binary, categorical nature of Oscar nominations: each market resolves independently

How to read this page

An outcome slate is a set of mutually-exclusive contracts that all settle on the same date. Their YES probabilities form a distribution over which outcome the market expects. Probabilities should roughly sum to 100% minus the venue’s overround.

Curve construction: each constituent contract is identified by its venue event_id (KXOSCARNOMPIC on kalshi). Tenor is computed from the contract’s close_time minus snapshot time, rounded to days. We do not interpolate between tenors — every plotted point is a real, traded contract. Outcome-slate pages show price-as-probability for mutually-exclusive contracts; term-structure pages show price-as-probability vs days-to-resolution for the same underlying event.

How we compute these odds

SimpleFunctions aggregates live prediction-market contracts from Kalshi and Polymarket. Each slug groups contracts that resolve on the same underlying event, identified by venue event_id.

For binary slugs, the headline probability is the liquidity-weighted mid-price across all bound contracts. For multi-outcome slugs (e.g. elections with 3+ candidates), the headline is the leader’s price; we never arithmetically average disjoint outcomes — that would produce a number with no real-world meaning.

Snapshots refresh every 5 minutes during market hours; daily aggregates are computed at 04:00 UTC. The 30-day sparkline is drawn from per-ticker daily means stored in market_indicator_daily; 24h delta and movement events are derived from the same source.
